Story

Icylin Moseley: Founder, Businesswoman, Beloved Grandmother

The late Icylin Moseley was born and raised in Jamaica. As an already established businesswoman in Jamaica, she emigrated to the Bahamas to be with her husband the late Canute Moseley in the 1950’s. As she established her home in the Bahamas she would often cook for many of her Jamaican and Bahamian friends. She soon began to think about the type of business she could establish in the Bahamas. Since she always enjoyed cooking she began to experiment in her home on Lilly in the Valley corner with Jamaican Beef Patties. She used a Coke bottle as a rolling pin to knead and roll the dough, she perfected her secret recipe and in 1965 her "Hot Pattie" business was born.

In 1980 "Mother Mose" as she was affectionately called invited her son Rudy who was working abroad at the time to join her in establishing the business as she was ailing in health. In 1982 Original Patties Bakery Ltd was established. "Mother Mose" was able to realize her small in-home business expand into a factory. Now 46 years later the soda bottle has been replaced with five state of the art machines that process the dough before it goes to the tables to be made into patties.

Icylin Moseley passed away on April 22, 1994 and is greatly missed by all. Her legacy lives on!
